can you help me on my metabolism?
I have a slow metabolism and I suffer from arthritis, fibromyalgia and have over the past 3 years had surgery to my hips for shallow hip displaisure 3 times, I want to lose weight and not feel so lethargic…I have good days and bad days, when I have a good day I get out and walk quite a bit but it tires me which is no good as I have 3 children to look after my youngest is 5…I need advice on what could speed my metabolism up and what I could do to motivate me more maybe a herb or vitamin or something I have tried all sorts but to no avail??anyone got any answers for me please?thanks.
I’m not a doctor. I have fibro, too.
Ask your doctor about Limbrel. You may be a good candidate for it. It’s an all natural prescription med for arthritis and is being used for fibro, too. It doesn’t cause weight gain like other fibro meds. Some insurances aren’t covering it yet, some have a higher copay because of it being so new. http://www.limbrel.com/
To rev up your metabolism eat 6 smaller meals, spread out throughout the day and exercise.
It’s such a catch 22 with fibromyalgia because you’re so exhausted that you don’t feel up to exercising, yet exercise will make your fibro feel better. Try and keep going on your walks and eventually you wont be so tired. I know it sounds much easier to do than to actually do it. If you have a place where you can swim, it’s a great exercise that doesn’t put stress on joints.
Eat a healthy, balanced diet that includes protein, vegetables, fruit, fiber/good carbs, and good fats. You can keep track of what you’re eating for free here: http://www.fitday.com
It will tell you the breakdown of carbs, protein, and fats. It will also tell you the nutritional breakdown of what you’re eating, calculate the amount of calories you’re burning.
To see how many calories your body needs each day to support your heart rate, respiration, body temp, etc, go here: http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/calneed Make sure you’re getting enough calories so you don’t go into starvation mode, which will slow your metabolism further and cause health problems.
Take a good multi-vitamin and look into joint support, too.

Look up Metabolic Balance (If you’re in the UK, I could only find two practitioners around London) - it’s a sensible diet that is aimed at getting your metabolism working at optimum rate by providing your body with the foods it specifically needs and also lowering your insulin levels which can stand in the way of losing weight if they are too high. This diet is taylor-made to your body’s requirements, you go for a blood test and then a consultation with a coach who will explain your plan to you. The diet requires no pills or powders, just a good kitchen scale and some commitment.

Try eating 4 to 5 smaller meals a day to keep your metabolism going. You could try getting a dvd to exercise a little at home. Try Leslie Sansone. She has walking dvd’s that are great. They are inexpensive and you can get them at places like wal-mart. I think you can get them on line too, just google her name If you have alot of pain then maybe a regular exercise program can help. I know it helps me with the arthritis in my leg. Yours is probably much worse though. You should be able to do her workouts, they are not that hard on your body. Get your kids to do it with you. My son tries to do it (he’s 2 and a half) and it’s fun! I love weight watchers. It’s easy to stick with and I’ve had great success.
